The Concept
The Free-mo 2 standard is designed to combine the best of 2 worlds, the Sipping and Switching Society’s Proven, light weight, durable, and reliable construction and alignment techniques as well as the Free-mo standard’s flexibility and prototype replicating standards. It is in no way designed to compete with Free-mo Standards or groups, but to compliment them.
The advantages
The advantage of this combination is a modular standard that is easy to build, light weight, reliable, and easy to setup.
With Free-mo 2, the need for fitter rails will be eliminated, and the “eyeball it” alignment technique will be replaced with accurately installed pins, this will allow the modules to be setup faster and more accurately than Free-mo Modules. With the pin system, once the modules are aligned and clamped together, all you have to do is connect the electrical buses between the modules and you are ready to operate.
There will also be the introduction of “adapter modules” basically a module with Free-mo 2 standard ends on one end and Free-mo or S&SS Standards on the other, the only need for this is because of the alignment pins on Free-mo 2 modules, as well as the difference in electrical standards.
The Disadvantage
As with all things in life there are disadvantages, with Free-mo 2 the big disadvantage is that it requires a higher attention to detail in the construction stages. This is not a standard for everyone, this is a standard for those who want to spend less time setting up their modules, and re-railing rolling stock. and more time running trains.
